The current document is the public, summarised version of the Mid Term report of the MARMONI project that includes an overview of the project activities carried out and results achieved during the first 23 months of the project (01/10/2010 – 31/08/2012). Please read under the chapter “About the project”.

On 15-16 November, 2012, about 70 participants from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Finland, Germany and Ireland took part in the seminar on Marine Strategy Framework Directive implementation organised within the MARMONI Project. The seminar gathered stakeholders from various sectors, both environmental and non-environmental. More detailed infomation, agenda and presentations please find under the chapter “Events”

Seminar will be held on November 15-16, 2012, in Tallinn and it is aimed at a variety of stakeholders representing environmental and non-environmental sectors to raise knowledge and facilitate co-operation on the implementation of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD).  If you are interested to participate or need some more information, please contact  Ms. Laura Remmelgas laura.remmelgas@bef.ee

We are glad to announce that 24 information panels reflecting the biodiversity of the Baltic Sea have been elaborated and placed on 4 routes operated by the “Tallink” company. Please find more under the chapter “Tallink sponsorship” or “Project outcomes”.

Brochure „Towards a resilient Baltic Sea ecosystem” has been prepared with the aim to introduce readers with the international legal frame for the protection of marine biodiversity – please find under the project outcomes.

On May 18 the local conference in Riga, Latvia devoted to the European Maritime Day was held in the premises of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development. Audience was introduced with activities about field work and indicator development within the MARMONI project.

The LIFE programme celebrates its 20th anniversary throughout May 2012 (the LIFE Regulation passed into law on 21 May 1992, to be precise). To mark this important milestone in the history of the EU’s financial instrument for the environment, the LIFE units warmly invite all LIFE projects, past or present , to organise an open day in May and to take part in not one but TWO special competitions. The EU Member States represented on the LIFE Committee and the European Commission’s LIFE Nature Unit have announced the Best LIFE Nature Projects 2010. The 18 projects selected represent the most successful of the recently completed LIFE Nature projects, in terms of best practices and/or demonstration actions on nature conservation and the implementation of the Habitats and Birds Directives.
